one of my favourite things to eat – chicken

17 08 2008

Who says you can’t get authentic Hainanese chicken rice in “The Big Smoke”?

I heart chicken. There was also ngoh hiang, steamed rice, green leafy vegetables, crisp cucumber slices, braised chicken feet with mushrooms, and some kick-ass freshly ground chilli. It was a very hearty home-cooked meal. I seriously ate a lot.

 Flaky, airy, buttery, or chocolately?

...and friends

Croissant, danish pastry, or pain au chocolat?

Decisions decisions decisions.

Must eat buttery (and chocolatey) things.

Why I deviate!

5 07 2008

Hello and welcome to my blog!

I heart bread. I go crazy over sandwiches (got to have toasted cheese sandwiches once in a while). Here’s where I deviate - I adore savoury stuff, pasta, curry, and meat, among other things. I love my sweets: cakes, tarts, pastries, desserts, you name it. I am one of those who scrutinises the desserts first when given a menu. In essence, I love eating, and I enjoy thinking about food.

I started this blog so that I can share my food experiences. Currently I am studying at a culinary school so that I can bask in all the smells that I can never tire of (like freshly baked bread, and apple tart). I just think it’s more fun to make cakes and pastries than say, roast a chicken, and besides, you have more excuses to stick your finger in a bowl of melted chocolate.

I bake (and cook) for the sheer pleasure it gives me. What I like most about making a cake, or even preparing a good meal, is the joy you can bring to people. You don’t necessarily need to open a book and scour through recipes. The occassional disaster makes for a good laugh (but not so funny job of cleaning up).

Life is short, and I believe that everyone should make it a priority to enjoy food that is delicious and makes one happy. Why? Simply because you are going to put this food in your mouth everyday, ideally three times a day (sometimes more!), for the rest of your life.
